Vidraru Lake

Lake Vidraru lies in the Argeș valley, in Arefu commune, Argeș County, between the Frunții Mountains and the Ghițu massif. The reservoir was formed by building an arch dam across the valley. The Transfăgărășan road passes near the dam and continues along the bank.
The concrete dam is 166 meters high and is part of the Vidraru hydropower scheme. Forested slopes and inlets in the side valleys shape the landscape of the reservoir. Check the operator’s announcements for the water level and access to the works area, especially when maintenance is under way at the hydropower facilities.
