Viforâta Monastery
Viforâta Monastery is in Viforâta village, Aninoasa commune, Dâmbovița County, near Târgoviște. The nunnery is dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God and Saint George. The church and the buildings around the courtyard were rebuilt in several eras, with support from ruling families.
Highlights inside include the icon of Saint George and the carved iconostasis. The bell tower frames the entrance to the precinct, and the cells and porches follow the edges of the courtyard. The history of the monastery is linked to Vlad Înecatul, Matei Basarab and Constantin Brâncoveanu. The complex bears traces of their work in its architecture, murals and liturgical objects.
