Violattos Mill in Brăila
The Violattos mill stands on the banks of the Danube, in the port area of Brăila. The construction of 1898, associated with the engineer Anghel Saligny, preserves the image of a period when grain and water transport had an important role in the city's economy. The tall body, the rows of windows and the industrial chimney make it easily recognizable in the waterfront landscape. The facade is the main reason for this stop.
Viewed from the water, the facade shows the size of the facilities that served the old commercial port. The repetitive windows and compact body set it apart from the houses and palaces in the city center. The stop completes the waterfront route with an example of industrial architecture. The mill can only be admired from the outside, from the public space, without entering the premises or approaching the degraded portions.
