Virgil Carianopol Library in Caracal
The "Virgil Carianopol" Municipal Library operates on Iancu Jianu street in Caracal, in a restored heritage building. Since 1998 the institution has been named after the poet, who was born in the town, and it moved into its current premises in 2002. However, the history of the local public library goes back to the interwar period, to cultural initiatives and book donations.
The collections preserve publications from the nineteenth century, old editions of poetry, encyclopedias and volumes in several languages. Besides offering books for reading and reference, the institution organizes meetings with writers, book exhibitions and events dedicated to Virgil Carianopol. The building and its activities are part of the cultural route of Iancu Jianu Street, where many historical houses have been preserved.
