Watermills at Rudăria
Eftimie Murgu, Caraș-Severin
The water mills from Rudăria are spread along the Rudăria valley, in the village of Eftimie Murgu, Caraș-Severin county. Small wooden structures house grinding facilities driven by horizontal wheels. Some of the mills are located in the village, and others continue to the gorges upstream.
The water is led to the wheel, which sets the millstone in motion through a vertical shaft. The installations belonged to groups of families, who shared the time of use for grinding grain. The ASTRA Museum coordinated a project to preserve the ensemble, with the repair of buildings, weirs and mechanisms, keeping the mills in their places in the valley.
