Wooden Church in Budești Josani
Budești, Maramureș
The wooden church of Saint Nicholas in Budești-Josani is located in Budești commune, Maramureș County, in the Cosău Valley. Built in 1643, it has a rectangular nave, a polygonal altar and a tall tower above the entrance. The monument belongs to the group of wooden churches on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The interior contains murals from the eighteenth century and icons made in the local tradition. The broad shingle roof and the turrets around the main spire stand out in the center of the village. The church stands on a small rise, surrounded by the cemetery.
