Wooden Church in Desești
In Desești commune, Maramureș County, the wooden Church of Sfânta Parascheva preserves the architecture and painting of a church from the eighteenth century. The building has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1999. The tower above the entrance and the shingled roof rise between the trees of the cemetery.
The interior has walls covered with religious scenes accompanied by inscriptions. The paintings are linked to the painter Radu Munteanu and to the tradition of Maramureș church painters. The beams, brackets and carved portal show the skill of the carpenters, and the restoration work covered both the wooden structure and the painted decoration.
