Xenophobia

Fear of strangers

The Greek xenos, “stranger, foreigner”, gave us the word xenophobia, the fear or dislike of people seen as foreign or strange. It starts from the idea that there is a conflict between “us” and “them” and can go as far as wanting to remove the other group or fearing the loss of one’s national or ethnic identity.
