Zalău County Museum of History and Art

Zalău, Sălaj

The Zalău County Museum of History and Art was established in 1951 and has two buildings: the “Vasile Lucăcel” History Section, at 9 Unirii Street, and the “Ioan Sima” Art Gallery, at 6 Gheorghe Doja Street. The gallery opened in 1981, after the painter Ioan Sima donated his collection to the museum.

The history exhibition was redesigned and reopened in 2014, and since 2018 it has also had the “Clio High Tech” hall, which offers a virtual journey through the history of the area. The museum holds over 225,000 heritage objects; the first pieces came from the collection of the lawyer Szikszai Lajos, donated in 1880.
