Zărnești Gorge

Zărnești area, Brașov

The Prăpăstiile Zărneștilor gorge is located near Zărnești, in Brașov County, in Piatra Craiului National Park. The gorge has high limestone walls, close together in some sections, leaving the road along the bottom in shade. The fissures, overhangs and almost vertical rocks show how water shaped this part of the mountain.

Access usually starts from Zărnești and Botorog's Fountain. The road through the gorge connects to the paths to the Curmătura Hut and other areas of the park, but continuing along them changes the length and difficulty of the trip. Visitors must follow the rules of the protected area and the posted access restrictions. In cold weather, snow and ice can remain on shaded sections, and after rain some surfaces may be slippery. For a walk through the gorge, wear hiking shoes and check conditions before setting out.
